Here is what we know so far about the new variant of Covid-19. According to the CDC, the Corona Virus was named that for the spikes on its surface, resembling a crown. This new variant, named SARS-CoV-2, was first seen in September of 2020. There are now cases in the United Kingdom, as well as the United States. There are also variants of Covid-19 in Africa affecting places like Nigeria and South Africa.
As of January 9, 2021, USA Today reports that there are 8 states across America with 63 total cases of this new Corona Virus. The CDC states that this variant is monitored not only because it’s ability to spread easier, but also because it can go unseen by specific diagnostic tests.
